LISTEN NOW! In our changing culture, it often appears that there is less and less of an awareness and respect for the values of our nation and the principles for which it stands upon. One of these is our nation’s National Anthem, “The Star Spangled Banner”. Virginia Tech’s Basketball coach sought to change that. After inviting service men and women, some active duty and some veteran, the coach promptly began to speak to his players about the value and importance of honoring these men and women.
When the team was lined up facing the chairs that they sit in during games, it wasn’t the players who the coach had stand in front of them. No. It was the collection of service members and veterans. Coach Williams then positioned himself between the two lines of individuals, Coach Williams began. “How tall you are and how fast you run, how well you shoot didn’t earn those chairs… I didn’t earn the chairs. He continues “These guys; when they were your age interrupted their life. They paused their education. They changed their career and they gave their life for those chairs to give us the freedom to play this game.”
